Frequently Asked Questions

Administrative Questions

  • What is Terumo Interventional Systems?
  • Terumo Interventional Systems (TIS), a strategic business unit of Terumo Medical Corporation, directly markets a full line of guidewires, catheters, introducer sheaths, guiding sheaths and embolization products for use in a multitude of interventional procedures. Interventional Radiologists, Interventional Neuroradiologists, Interventional Cardiologists and Vascular Surgeons are among the medical professionals that depend upon TIS products to access and cross difficult-to-reach lesions thereby allowing therapeutic intervention in previously unreachable vascular beds.
  • Terumo Interventional Systems is associated with which GPOs?
  • Terumo currently has contracts with HPG, Med Assets, Trinity Consorta, Consorta, CHI Consorta and Broadlane. VA pricing is also available.
  • How are orders placed through Terumo Interventional Systems?
  • To place an order, or for any other order-related inquiry, please contact Terumo Customer Administration Department at 800.888.3786. Orders can also be faxed to 800.411.5870.
For product technical information, please contact our Inside Sales Customer Care group at 800.862.4143.

General Product Questions

Guidewires

  • Can the Glidewire be inserted through a metal entry needle?
  • No. It is contraindicated to insert a Glidewire through a metal entry needle. Shearing of the plastic jacket may occur.
  • Has the hydrophilic coating on the Terumo Glidewire changed since Terumo assumed direct sales of its endovascular interventional products, formerly sold through Boston Scientific?
  • No. The Terumo Glidewire used today is exactly the same Glidewire the industry has been relying on for over 15 years.

Catheters

  • What is the difference between Glidecath and Glidecath XP angiographic catheters?
  • Glidecath XP is an excellent choice when procedures call for extra durability and "pushability." Its stiffer construction yields greater torque control and pushability, as well as the ability to maintain its integrity during longer procedures. It also has a nylon-rich inner layer for the smooth passage of therapeutic and embolic materials. Glidecath XP has a 5 Fr outer diameter.

Much like Glidecath XP, Glidecath 4 Fr is double-braided and has a nylon-rich inner layer. However, its smaller outer diameter and large inner lumen make it more flexible and a better choice for more tortuous vasculature.

Glidecath 5 Fr is single-braided giving it the softest construction of the three. This allows for superb trackability and navigation of the most tortuous vessels. Its tapered tip creates a smoother transition between guidewire and Glidecath, further enhancing trackability.
  • Do all of Terumo's catheters have hydrophilic coating?
  • Yes. All catheters offer hydrophilic coating on a portion of the product.
  • What portion of the catheter has hydrophilic coating?
  • Glidecath 4 Fr and XP: Hydrophilic coating is on the distal 15 cm
Glidecath 5 Fr (65 cm length): Hydrophilic coating is on the distal 25 cm
Progreat (110 cm length): Hydrophilic coating is on the distal 50 cm
Progreat (130 cm length): Hydrophilic coating is on the distal 70 cm
  • What are the lengths of the Terumo Glidecath Catheters?
  • The lengths are as follows:
    Glidecath 4 Fr: 65, 100, and 120 cm lengths
Glidecath 5 Fr: 65 and 100 cm lengths
Glidecath XP 5 Fr: 65 and 100 cm lengths
Progreat Microcatheter: 110 and 130 cm lengths
  • Terumo catheters are compatible with what size guidewires?
  • The Terumo Glidecath and Glidecath XP are compatible up to an 0.038" guidewire
  • Are Terumo catheters radiopaque?
  • Yes, all Terumo catheters are radiopaque. Progreat Ω also has a platinum radiopaque marker at the tip.
  • Are Terumo Glidecath 4 Fr, Glidecath 5 Fr XP, and Glidecath 5 Fr braided?
  • The Terumo Glidecath 4 Fr and Glidecath 5 Fr XP are double-braided. The Glidecath 5 Fr is single-braided.
  • Can coils be pushed through the Glidecath?
  • Due to the nylon-rich inner layer of Glidecath 4 Fr and Glidecath XP, physicians are able to push coils through the catheter.
  • Are the catheter tips shapeable?
  • The Terumo Glidecath comes with a pre-shaped tip that can not be altered. However, Progreat Microcatheters have shapeable tips.
  • What are the benefits of the Progreat Coaxial System?
  • The Progreat Coaxial System combines two of Terumo's premier devices into one system to enhance procedural efficiency. The coaxial system comes with a Progreat microcatheter pre-loaded with a specially designed 0.021" Glidewire GT with a 45° reshapeable tip. The combination provides a smooth transition between wire and microcatheter and offers better support than a system with a 0.018" guidewire. The Glidewire GT and Progreat can be flushed simultaneously and the hub of the wire can be used as a torque device to shorten procedure time.
  • At what PSI should we set our power injectors when using your Progreat Omega product?
  • The Progreat Ω has a 900 PSI (pressure tolerance or burst pressure). The Progreat has a 750 PSI. When using power injectors, it is necessary to have a high pressure tolerance to prevent the microcatheter from bursting.

Sheaths

  • Do the Terumo sheaths have radiopaque markers?
  • Terumo offers a line of Pinnacle R/O II Radiopaque Marker Introducer Sheaths. They are available in 6, 7 and 8 Fr sizes in 6 cm, 10 cm and 25 cm lengths. In addition, the Pinnacle Destination Guiding Sheaths have radiopaque markers.
  • What lengths and configurations are available with Pinnacle Destination Guiding Sheaths?
  • 45 cm: 5 cm distal hydrophilic coating - Straight, Multi-Purpose, Hockey Stick, RDC, and LIMA curve style tip shapes
65 cm: 35 cm distal hydrophilic coating - Straight tip
90 cm: 15 cm distal hydrophilic coating - Straight and Multi-Purpose curve style tip shapes
All Pinnacle Destination Guiding Sheaths are available in 6 Fr and 7 Fr inner diameters.
  • What is the difference between Terumo's Glidewire Access System and the GlideAccess System?
  • The Glidewire Access System comes with the Glidewire and includes the SURFLO® IV Catheter 22 gauge needle for a small puncture. The GlideAccess System comes with either a stainless steel guidewire or platinum-tipped nitinol guidewire, as well as a standard metal needle that is either echogenic or non-echogenic. Both the Glidewire Access System and GlideAccess System have the same coaxial dilator.

  • What sizes do Bead Block come in?
  • Bead Block comes in 5 microspheres sizes: 100-300 µm, 300-500 µm, 500-700 µm, 700-900 µm and 900-1200 µm.
  • How can I be assured I am getting and using the right size microspheres?
  • Bead Block comes in different colored syringes for maximum safety. 100-300 µm yellow syringe, 300-500 µm blue syringe, 500-700 µm red syringe, 700-900 µm green syringe, 900-1200 µm purple syringe.
